SIMWinXP

SIMWinXP is a separate software product which integrates schematic capture and simulation features derived from EDWinXP into a single, stand-alone application. Project databases are freely transferable between both packages and design of circuits initially captured in SIMWinXP may be continued in EDWinXP.
SIMWinXP users may choose between two simulation engines – indigenous Mixed Mode Simulator developed by Visionics or EDSpice – specially adapted and seamlessly incorporated SPICE3F5 simulator. Both simulators support analysis of hierarchical circuits.
Simulation engines analyze circuits designed graphically with help of sophisticated Schematic Diagram Editor. The package contains extensive library of symbols and simulation models for digital and analog circuit elements. Element Browser, which is attached to diagram editor, facilitates instantaneous access to elements in the library.
Simulation results are presented in the form of waveforms, which are recorded in Waveform Viewer. The progress of simulation (transient analysis) may be monitored through inbuilt 4/8-channel Oscilloscope or 32-bit Logic Analyzer.
SIMWinXP includes Library Editor allowing to add new circuit elements to the library and assign to them user defined simulation models, generated with help of VHDL Editor/Compiler.
Circuits edited in SIMWinXP may be exported in various formats (EDIF 2.0 Netlist, Xilinx EDIF, Altera EDIF, JEDEC, CUPL). The package can also import device definitions in Altera EDIF format and convert them into circuits or simulation models.

ver 1.10  Currently available version is SIMWinXP 1.10.

EDSpice Simulator

Original SPICE3F5 simulator seamlessly embedded in SIMWinXP package. This version allows analyzing even digital and mixed circuits. Extensive library of Code Models is included as well as library of sub-circuits published by electronic component manufactures and adapted by Visionics for use with EDSpice. Basic front end for this simulation engine is schematic diagram editor, but there is also provision to parse and analyze circuit files edited in SPICE netlist format. Textual editor for circuit files in SPICE netlist format is provided as well as facility to build circuits and sub-circuits in SIMWinXP by importing such files.

Mixed Mode Simulator

Although digital circuit simulation is supported by EDSpice, Visionics indigenous Mixed Mode Simulator is better suited for this task. This simulation system includes sophisticated models for simulating various memory devices and microcontrollers. For example model for 8051 family of microcontrollers is not just simulation model but complete software development environment. Users may edit and compile 8051 programs written in C-language or assembler and debug them while simulation of the circuit is in progress.

Schematic Diagram Editor

This is the uniform front end of the package. It supports creation of multi-page schematic diagrams of hierarchical circuits. Its functionality includes full set of manual and automated tools for placement of circuit elements on the diagram and for routing the connections. Front end contains also tools necessary to prepare circuit for simulation and for execution of analyses.

Element Browser

Element Browser is embedded in schematic diagram editor. Efficient library search engine is combined with specially designed database, which enables instant access to most common circuit elements in the library. Default contents of browser database can be easily customized according to user’s preferences. Browsing and searching in the library may be bypassed by assigning hot keys (shortcut keys) to frequently used elements.

Waveform Viewer

Results of analyses are recorded in the form of waveform files and automatically pasted into Waveform Viewer, where they may be examined and printed. Subsequent waveforms are combined in multi-page document and may be presented one by one, tiled or cascaded.

Oscilloscope and Logic Analyzer

The progress of transient / time domain simulation may be monitored in real time in oscilloscope window or by logic analyzer. Oscilloscope presents waveforms of voltage, current (at four selected test points) or logic states (at 8 selected test points). Logic analyzer presents state of digital signals arranged in 8, 16 or 32 bit words in binary, octal, hexadecimal or decimal form.

VHDL Editor/Compiler

SIMWinXP includes extensive library of digital simulation models for Mixed Mode and EDSPice simulators. Simulation models are software modules (DLLs) linked to graphical symbols representing circuit elements on the schematic diagram. User has the option to enhance model library in various ways. The software kit necessary to create MM Simulator models in C-language may be provided on request. Code Models for EDSpice may be created using EDComX, a separate Visionics product. The other way is to define function of a circuit element in VHDL. SIMWinXP includes functions to turn circuit element VHDL definition into simulation model DLL.

Library Editor

This module is used to add new circuit elements to the system library. This task includes creation of graphical symbols for new circuit elements and connecting them with appropriate simulation models. Interface is fully graphical – user creates symbol images from basic primitives like lines, triangles, rectangles, arcs, circles and text strings in various fonts.
